District Office on Farm Water Management helps water user associations to improve the water courses to minimize conveyance losses of water and impart trainings to farmers in irrigation agronomy, Crop Water Requirement, improved methods of irrigation and Water Course maintenance
On Farm Water Management under takes the following activities to facilitate on farm irrigation

- On the job Training of Field Staff.
- Farmers Training in improved methods of irrigation
Total arable land in Buner is 278335 Acres. District Buner has renovated 505 water Courses which has brought nearly 10000 Acres of land under irrigation under “National Program for improvement of water courses” Project in the Past Four Years.
The remaining 268335 acres land can be brought under irrigation by constructing 3000 water courses and 100 water storage tanks.
On farm water management provides technical and financial assistance to water user association for improvement of water courses water Storage tanks.The Population is dense and land holding are very small in Buner. Field crops are successfully grown on barani lands with sewer irrigation. However it would be highly risky if vegetable and cash crops are left at the mercy of natural rain fall which is always scanty and unpredictable
The average land holding in Buner is 5 acres per house hold and hence farmers cultivate vegetable and cash crops to sustain their families.
Apart from two main canals there are several small diversion and tube well irrigation schemes managed by irrigation Department Buner. Most of the farmers fulfilling their irrigation needs through small scale irrigation system i.e Persian wheels, dug wells tube wells and diversion from perennial stream.
Buner valley is consisted of three main valleys namely Baranbdu valley, Chamla valley and Khudhukhel valley surrounded by hills from all sides with permanent springs feeding the Khowar and Canals of all the plains of Buner. There is sufficient ground and surface water in Buner to bring the unirrigated area under irrigation. Apart from Sonigram lift and budal canal most of the irrigation facilities are farmers managed small scale lift diversion and tube wells and there is sufficient scope for construction of such schemes for farmers groups having rain fed lands.
