After devolution of Governments to District administration, provided by Local Government Ordinance 2001, District Finance Departments were established in Pakistan in the year 2001.
Being custodian of District Exchequer, Finance Department is playing a key role in fiscal management, financial regulation and administration of treasuries of District Government. It deals with the subjects pertaining to finance of the District Government and financial matters, preparation of Annual Budget (Current & Development), Reappropriation/Supplementary budget for the consideration/approval of the Zilla Council.
